Report fly-tipping
Dumping rubbish in public places is against the law. This is called fly-tipping. If you fly-tip, you could receive a fine of up to £1,000.
If you are taken to court, you could:
- have your vehicle taken by the police
- get a fine of up to £50,000
- be sent to prison
Remove your rubbish safely
If you pay someone to take your rubbish, you have a duty to check if they have a waste carrier licence. They also must give you a waste transfer note.
If they dump your rubbish illegally, you could be fined up to £600.
You can take large items, asbestos, and hazardous waste to your local household recycling centre.
Report dumped rubbish
If you find a fly-tip, do not touch it.
You will need to tell us:
- where it is, using what3words or our map
- what type of rubbish has been left
- if you have any photos
If you saw the fly-tipping happen, tell us:
- what you saw
- the vehicle registration
- what the vehicle looked like
- if there was anyone involved
What happens next
What happens next depends on where the rubbish is and who owns the land.
Public land
We aim to clear rubbish within 48 hours. It might take longer if the rubbish is large or if we need special machines to move it. If it blocks a road, we will contact Kent Highways.
Private land
We will send your report to our waste crime team. If Kent County Council owns the land, we will pass the report to them.
We cannot clear rubbish on land owned by Network Rail. You can report rubbish on their website or by phoning them on 03457 11 41 41.
