Local and parish elections
Local and parish council elections take place every four years. To vote in an election, you must be registered to vote.
Local government elections
Maidstone Borough Council provides services and facilities to residents. Residents can vote to elect councillors to represent them at council meetings.
The next local government elections are scheduled to take place in 2028. 49 councillors will be elected depending on the electoral boundaries.
Parish council elections
Maidstone has both parished and unparished areas. Several councillors are elected each year to represent the parish based on its size. The next election will take place in 2028.

By elections
If a councillor leaves their role before the end of the four years, a by-election may be held. This will happen if the electors of the parish vote for it. Alternatively, the parish council may co-opt to fill the position.
