The

ethnographic material from the South West Pacific area, Pacific
marine and terrestrial shells, Japanese pottery, porcelain, arms
and armour and related artefacts, Chinese ivories, jade, enamels
and bronze, European old master oil paintings, watercolours,
pottery and porcelain, Sicilian terracottas, Russian objects of
fine art and illustrated books collected by Julius Lucius Brenchley
on his travels during the mid 19th century. Some of the groups making up the Collection are of
national and international importance.
It is the responsibility of the Trustees to ensure, as far as
possible, that the individual artefacts which make up the
Collection accumulated by Brenchley, and presented to Maidstone
Museum for the enlightenment of the people of Maidstone, are maintained, preserved and exhibited.
