Driving around the cemetery

Visitors using the Sutton Road entrance may drive into the cemetery grounds to attend services or visit graves. You must stay on the roads at all times.

Funerals

Funerals take place Monday to Friday between 10am and 2.30pm. Visit our Maidstone Cemetery Prices page to see the various costs and the payment process.

Graves

Grave selection depends on availability and personal choice. There are three options:

  • lawn graves, a headstone memorial
  • general graves, for a larger memorial
  • cremated remains plots, for putting ashes in a grave with a memorial on the plot. This is not available at Vinters Park Crematorium.

Maidstone residents have priority over non-residents. You can find out more on our residents' webpage. If you would like to make a grave selection, you can make an appointment by contacting the bereavement team.

American or metal coffins

We are taking steps to preserve grave space and reduce our environmental impact in the cemetery. As of 14 July 2022 we will no longer bury American or metal coffins. We also do not allow vaults or the bricking out of graves.

The reasons that this decision has been taken is not only environmental, as American and metal caskets do not break down, but it is also to preserve space. Vaults are also not allowed for this reason.

In order for an American casket to be buried, two grave spaces need to be purchased, and only two caskets can be buried in that space (9ft and 5ft). With normal-sized coffins, we can bury up to six people in two graves, which means we are losing four grave spaces by allowing the caskets to be used.

We will honour those graves already purchased.
