Delays to Thameslink 'Unacceptable'

Commuters hoping to benefit from new and  frequent train services into the City from Maidstone East will have to wait longer following the announcement that Thameslink Services won’t start operating from the County Town until December 2019. We are disappointed by the news as we were originally promised the service would be running from December 2018.

Thameslink services to London would run via London Bridge, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon, St Pancras and on to Cambridge. Journey times to London Bridge would be between 53 and 55 minutes and would run half hourly all day Mondays to Saturdays. Most of the trains would terminate at Maidstone East ensuring passengers starting their journey to London would be assured of a seat.

The introduction of this service has been much anticipated and by most accounts would have made the County Town a more attractive place to live and invest. It has been widely welcomed by the business community.

Leader Cllr Fran Wilson said: “This is extremely disappointing news and I will be lobbying this issue on behalf of our residents and businesses.  Despite being the County Town of Kent we appear to be the last town on the train service list.  I am certain everyone in the Borough will join me in saying this is completely unacceptable.”
