The Mayor of Maidstone is the First Citizen of the Borough. The Mayor connects the present day with history, acting as a symbol of continuity.


Our First Citizen can come from any walk of life, gender or ethnic background.


The Mayor undertakes many social engagements within the Borough of Maidstone and acts as a link between the various bodies and organisations.


The Mayor presides over Full Council meetings.

The Worshipful Mayor of Maidstone,

Cllr Denise Joy
The current Mayor is Cllr Denise Joy.  Cllr Joy was born in Maidstone and attended local schools; in 1994 she was elected to Maidstone Borough Council to represent High Street Ward.

 

Working in pre-schools for many years, Cllr Joy had her own nursery until December 2005.  Cllr Joy is a member of the Parochial Church Council, a Board member for the Maidstone Housing Trust, and a local School Governor.

 

Cllr Joy enjoys socialising and attending the theatre; married to Kenny, they have two children, Lee and Kerry, and three grandchildren, Charlie, Lauren and Jake.
