Painting and advertising

The painting of the exterior of a dwelling

Planning permission may not be required provided:

  • It is not for the purpose of advertisement, announcement or direction.  If the building is listed then listed building consent will normally be needed before you carry out any work.

The display of advertising

The regulations which limit the advertisements that can be displayed are complex and you should seek professional advice on whether or not you will need to apply to the council before displaying any advertisement.

Displaying an advert without the necessary consent can result in prosecution by the council.

You can find more information about outdoor advertisements and signs from the Communities and Local Government website.
