News Release
Junction 7 reserved for hotel hotspot
Maidstone Borough Council’s planning committee
has given a hotel a 5-star rating for it to proceed.
The hotel, proposed for junction 7 of the M20,
was granted outline planning permission on July 20, 2010 following
the decision by the Government Office for the South East not to
call-in the application for consideration by the Secretary of
State.
Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Malcolm
Greer, said: “I’m really pleased that this hotel has been granted
planning permission because it will be great for the town.
Fifty-six full-time jobs will be created thanks to this permission
being granted, which is even better news during these recessionary
times.”
The six-story hotel, which initially is an
outline application for 150 bedrooms, with 173 parking spaces, will
be based on the Eclipse business park off Sittingbourne Road,
Maidstone.
The hotel, which will serve the business
market, will have a function room, a small gym and two smaller
meeting rooms and a bar and restaurant area.
The intended occupier is not however, known at
the current time.
A further application for approval of the
detailed design of the hotel will need to be made before work on
site can commence.
