Beware of bogus callers
Maidstone Borough Council wants residents to
be on their guard if they receive a telephone call from someone
saying they are from the council, and asking for credit or debit
card details so that they can reimburse a council tax
overpayment.
Maidstone Borough Council does not operate in
this way and advises anyone who receives such a call NOT to give
any debit or credit card details. Revenues manager, Stephen
McGinnes says: “If possible, make a note of as much information as
you can, end the call and then telephone Consumer Direct on 08457
585497 and the Police on 01622 690690 to report the incident.”
The advice follows an incident today (Friday
August 27) when a resident refused to give the details requested
and called the council to check if they had received a bogus
call.
