The Gurkha tribute fund
A public appeal has been launched to
raise money for a lasting Gurkha tribute statue in
Maidstone.

The Gurkhas have had a vital role in the
British Armed Forces since 1816 and are recognised for their
bravery, courage and loyalty.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the raising of
the Queen’s Gurkha Engineers, Maidstone is paying tribute by
erecting a statue paid for by public subscription.
The Maidstone Trust, on behalf of Maidstone
Borough Council, needs to raise £15,000 to fund the statue, which
will depict a Gurkha Engineer Sergeant in dress uniform.
Sussex Sculptor Mary Cox has been commissioned
to create the bronze statue, which will be mounted on a granite
plinth and placed outside Maidstone Museum.
