Festive decorations
Town Centre Christmas lights
Maidstone Borough Council provides festive
decorations for the town centre during the Christmas period through
a specialist contractor.
It involves much negotiation and partnership
working with building owners in the town to provide secure fittings
to attach the lights too. There are some limitations on this as
some of the building facades are to old and too fragile to carry
the weight of the lights, particularly in Bank Street. This
is just one of the hazards of living in a town with an extensive
history.
In 2009 many of the fittings and electrical
connections had to be replaced for safety reasons. For
environmental improvements the light bulbs have been replaced with
efficient low energy bulbs which makes savings on electricity.
