Housing associations and co-ops

Maidstone Borough Council works with a variety of partner organisations including RSLs (Registered Social Landlords) Housing Associations and Co-operatives to provide low cost affordable housing in the borough.

What are Housing Associations and Co-operatives?

Housing Associations are non for profit making organisations that provide Housing for people who cannot resolve their housing need in the open market.

Both Housing Associations and Co-operatives are run by a Committee of Voulnteers elected buy the Tentants. In the case of a Co-operatives the committe is made up entirely of Tenants, meaning that the tenants then own and run the Co-operative.

Some Housing Associations and Co-operatives provide housing to specific client groups such as special needs groups or elderly people.

All social housing in the borough of Maidstone is let through Kent Home Choice. To apply for social housing in the borough, you should apply to our Housing Register.
