Maidstone Borough Council has agreed to give Maidstone United freehold of land at Gallagher Stadium following a meeting of the Policy and Resources Committee last night (Wednesday 22 November).
In a statement, Cllr Fran Wilson, Chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee, said: “We have a duty of care to protect the borough and to ensure that any area of strategic land is disposed of in accordance with council policy. We appreciate the importance of Maidstone United Football Club, not only in terms of the significant contribution they make to the local economy, but the positive impact they have upon the community.
“After careful consideration the Committee has made the decision to offer the area of land to the club under a Freehold arrangement with an additional overage provision.
“We wish the club every success and luck forward to continue to support them as they grow and develop within the heart of Maidstone.”
