There has been an update into the situation at Mote Park.
Cllr Fran Wilson, Leader of Maidstone Borough Council, said:
“Southern Water has been called to make emergency repairs to a collapsed sewer which they own within Mote Park. We believe this fault was caused by the sudden rainfall. The Environment Agency is also on site and the council is working closely with them to take any steps needed to keep the park and its visitors safe whilst this work is carried out.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused; however, Southern Water have assured us that they are working as quickly as possible and we hope to have all areas of the park back to normal very soon.”
A spokesperson for Maidstone Borough Council, said:
“ Due to the bad weather the main entrance to Mote Park, off Mote Avenue, is flooded. Unfortunately it is not safe to pass and we have therefore taken the decision to temporarily close this entrance.
“The park can be accessed using other routes for now; however, we are advising all visitors to be aware that weather conditions are not ideal and that areas of the park may not be passable.
“We are monitoring the situation and will post further updates to the Maidstone Borough Council’s website and all Facebook and Twitter sites.”
