It is an outline planning application for a rail/road freight interchange incorporating buildings for warehousing and distribution and offices, research and development and light industrial units, on 112 hectares west of M20 J8 Bearsted/Hollingbourne. It includes earthworks, acoustic measures, retaining walls, access works with internal roads and bridges.

Planning Committee Meeting - May 7

The council’s planning committee formally considered the KIG application on May 7 at the Maidstone TV Studios, New Cut Road, Vinters Park.  The meeting was broadcast live. Watch the planning committee meeting again.

Appeal

The applicants lodged an appeal after the Council's failure to determine the application within the statutory time. The appeal was heard by means of a public local inquiry conducted by a Planning Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State.

The Inquiry has finished and we are awaiting the outcome. Due to the long length and complexity of the inquiry we do not know how long the Inspector will take to produce his report or when the Secretary of State will make a decision.

The appeal was dismissed by the Secretary of State on August 5, 2010 in accordance with the recommendations of the Planning Inspector.
