Environmental Health

Maidstone Borough Council's Environmental Health section
provides a range of services which includes Food, Health and
Safety, Pollution Control and Safety Advisory Group. Our teams
of officers provide services which aim to promote healthy living,
protect public health and provide a quality environment.
The Food Safety team inspects food businesses to ensure that
they are complying with both food safety and health and safety
laws, investigate complaints about food and premises, and food
poisoning. We also provide food safety training, advice to new
business operators and register food businesses.
The Safety Advisory Group (SAG) deals with the issues
surrounding the planning and execution of major public events
held in the borough, largely, but not exclusively, from an
environmental health perspective. It is a multi-disciplinary group
with members from environmental health, environmental
enforcement, licensing, property, tourism and legal sections.
There is also a strong representation from external organisations
such as the Kent Police, Fire service, Ambulance services and
the Primary Care Trust, Environment Agency and Kent Highways
Services.
The Pollution Control team deals with air quality, land
contamination, environmental permitting, planning, private and
public water supplies.
The Health and Safety team inspect businesses to ensure that
they are complying with health and safety legislation, investigate
accidents at work and complaints about working conditions, and
monitor private water supplies.
