Equalities - assessment and consultation
Equality Impact Assessments
Equality Impact Assessments were introduced in Maidstone Borough
Council in 2002 in response to a requirement of the 2000 Race
Relations Amendment Act. Equality Impact Assessments need to be
completed for all new and reviewed policies, guidance documents;
any developing strategies, decisions or services, as part of the
services planning or review process, and for any service being
considered for external contract or partnership arrangement.
What is the purpose of an Equality Impact Assessment?
The overall purpose of an EIA is to:
- Assess what provision the service makes to people within
different equality groups and challenge if these are adequate
- Consult with service users and other stakeholder to identify
where the service should consider making or must make
improvements
- Decide how the improvements are going to be delivered, by whom,
by when, drawing on what resources and with what outcome.
