Death - repatriation of bodies to or from England and
Wales
For the purpose of repatriation it is important to note that
Scotland is regarded as being 'abroad' or 'out of England'.
Regulations can vary greatly from country to country. In the
event of a death occurring while the deceased is on holiday the
travel company are best placed to instigate arrangements for
bringing the deceased home. The company may use a
designated repatriation service but this should not prevent
you from using your chosen funeral director for the actual
funeral service. If the deceased did not have travel insurance
the British Embassy may be able to give advice.
It is worthwhile to note that the authorities in the UK may
require documentation from abroad to be translated into
english.
Your chosen funeral director in the UK will be able to provide
assistance with all aspects of the repatriation either to or
from England & Wales.
