Grants for first time buyers

 

Discretionary grants of up to £10,000 are available for first time buyers purchasing a property that needs renovation.

 

Financial eligibility

 

·         This grant is not means tested and is available to any first time buyer.

 

·         The property has to be in Council Tax bands A, B or C.

 

Work eligibility

 

·         The property must require repairs or improvements to make it free from serious hazards or to make it decent.

 

Examples of these types of problems might be to repair or renew a leaking roof, sort out serious dampness problems, or to renew dangerous wiring.

 

Occupation eligibility

 

·          The first time buyer must have lived in the property for less than 6 months.

 

·          The property will be, or is, their sole residence.

 

·          The property must be over 10 years old.

 

Conditions

 

These grants are offered on a discretionary basis and are subject to sufficient funds being available.

 

The grant is repayable if the property is sold within 3 years.  The grant will be registered as a local land charge.
