The Revised Sustainable Community Strategy 2008/9

The revised Sustainable Community Strategy "Maidstone Matters, Partnership in Action", will outline the Maidstone Local Strategic Partnership's Vision for how the borough will evolve and change over the next ten years.

Draft Vision: "‘Retain and build on Maidstone Borough’s distinctive history / character and role as Kent’s County town.  To develop communities and a town where people can achieve their aspirations, improve their quality of life and enjoy an excellent environment.  Particular focus on creating prosperity and balancing this with environmental quality."

To date a significant amount of research and public consultation has taken place to help the LSP develop the priorities for the new strategy.  The following documents outline this work:

The Maidstone Profile Report – The profile contains statistical analysis of the key issues which affect the borough.

  • The Draft Local Action Plan – The plan is based upon the targets set out in the Kent Agreement Two, which brings partners together to work for the good of the county.  The priorities identified within the plan form part of a defined list of prescriptive indicators which were developed by the Communities and Local Government Department.
  • The Draft Issues and Choices Report – The document brings together a number of working streams and sets out the issues and choices relating to the key themes within the emerging sustainable community strategy.
  • "Stick up for Maidstone" - Community Engagement – A report of the results gathered from the community consultations carried out between May - September 2008.

Work is now underway to compile a draft Sustainable Community Strategy which will be available for public consultation in the New Year.
