Maidstone Museum's East Wing development
Maidstone Museum’s East Wing development was officially underway
in March when the contract was signed for the work to be
started.
Ashford-based construction company, Morgan Ashurst plc, were
awarded the contract and will be carrying out the work to extend
Maidstone Museum’s East Wing.
This is the first stage in the East Wing development and it’s a
very exciting time for the Museum, our Tourist Information Service
and the borough council. The council received a very competitive
tender for this work and Morgan Ashurst gave us best value for
money.
The East Wing project work will cost £3.7m to complete and has
been made possible largely by a grant of £2m from the Heritage
Lottery Fund. Construction work should be starting shortly after
the signing of the contract. The whole project is expected to be
completed by summer 2011.
Morgan Ashurst plc’s special works area director, Colin Shermer,
said: “We’re thrilled to be part of this exciting project which is
going to transform the look of the East Wing. We are
particularly looking forward to incorporating state-of-the-art
modern and sustainable technologies into this historic building
such as ground source heat pumps and photovoltaic panels which will
create a truly up-to-date facility that local people will be proud
of.”
