Licence - explosives

Maidstone Borough Council does not provide explosives licences.

You can get this licence from Kent Trading Standards.

Explosives must not be stored unless you are licensed or registered with the local authority. You will need to be registered or licensed if you sell or store any of the following:

  • Fireworks
  • Small arms cartridges
  • Cartridges for vehicle air-bags
  • Cartridges for nail guns
  • Flares and smoke signals

If your premises are in Kent, you can either contact Kent Trading Standards by email or letter or phone your area office to talk to an explosives officer or request an application form.

Licence/registration renewals

Renewal reminders are sent out 2-3 weeks before the expiry of your existing licence or registration. Renewals can be made by post using the renewal form which will be sent to you at that time.

The fees are set by the Health & Safety Executive and are reviewed annually in April. Please contact Kent Trading Standards if you have any queries regarding your renewal.

Storage of explosives at quarries and mines

If you would like information about the storage of large quantities of explosives or any storage of "high explosives" such as gelignite please contact Kent Trading Standards.
