Business rates - rateable valuations
Rateable Value
Every non-domestic property is valued for rating purposes on the
basis of its rental value and your Non-Domestic Rate Bill will show
you what the rateable value of your property is. This is carried
out by the Valuation Officer, an officer of the independent
government agency. You can contact him at:
Valuation Officer Karen J Kendrick, Non Domestic
Rates South East, Valuation Office Agency,
St Annes’s House, 2 St Annes’s Road,
Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN21
3LG.
Telephone: 03000 501501
Further information is available at the Valuation Office website.
If you are not happy with the Rateable Value assigned by that
officer you may appeal against the value as detailed in the
Making An Appeal section. The
rateable value of every property is shown in the Rating or
Valuation List.
Rating or Valuation List
This is a list of every non-domestic property that has been given a
Rateable Value and it is updated every five years. The current List
came into effect on April 1, 2005 and reflected the
hypothetical rental value of a property as it would have been on
April 1, 2003. It is a public document and can be seen at
the Valuation Officer's website. A
hard copy is also held at the Council's main offices at Maidstone
House, King Street, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6JQ and will be included
on the our website at a later date.
