Linley Shaw Foundation

Supports charities to conserve, preserve and restore the natural beauty of the UK countryside for the public benefit.

 

Has a particular interest in projects which have the active involvement of volunteers. Applications to be submitted by letter - there is no application form. A break down of project costs is required. Offers grants between £500-£15,000. Bids are considered in February/early March and should be recieved by December/early January.

Trees for School Fund

Provides grants of between £100-£700 to cover the costs of tree planting. Funding is available for planting in school grounds only and projects should actively engage children in the planting of the trees.

 

The deadline date for bids is May 31, 2006. Activities should take place during National Tree Week, November 22 - December 3, 2006.

Community Trees Fund

Funding is available for community groups involved in well-planned tree planting projects. Schemes should involve children under the age of 16 in the planning and planting.

Trees for Free Scheme

The Free Trees Scheme is able to supply up to 25 trees free of charge to any individual or group owning land including: schools, community groups, hospitals, churches, farmers, private individuals and many more. The scheme aims to improve and protect the Kent environment through the planting of trees in the boroughs of Bexley, Dartford, Gravesham, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge & Malling, Maidstone and Swale.

Hanson Environment Fund

This Landfill Tax Credit Scheme operator funds environmental and community initiatives in areas where Hanson PLC is operational. The scheme supports:

  • Projects which improve the natural or built environment of communities
  • Projects that create, restore or manage areas to safeguard and/or enhance biodiversity
  • Amenities for, and involving, local communities
  • Wildlife and habitat conservation and creation on sites with public access

The Fund offers assistance through two strands: a Main Grants Scheme (upto £25,000) and a Small Grants Scheme (upto £5,000). From February 2006 applications must either be for the full project costs or the final amount needed to enable the project to take place - all other funding must be secured.

 

Projects can only be funded if they are within 5 miles (8km) of a Hanson operation. The company has operations across Kent including Ashford, Canterbury, Erith, Folkestone, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Sittingbourne, Tilmanstone, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.

The Phillips Fund

The scheme seeks to protect, conserve and enhance the use and character of the rural landscape and its communities in Kent & Medway. Grants of upto £500 are available to charities, voluntary and community groups for activities such as:

  • the protection of rural land threatened by development
  • the planting of trees and hedging in rural communities
