Freedom of Information - advice
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental
Information Regulations 2004 give people the right to request
information held by public authorities. This "Right to Know"
allows you access to a range of recorded information held by the
council.
You do not need to give a reason for requesting
information. Although the information requested will be
released wherever possible, some types of information may be exempt
from the right of access. There may be a charge for some
information.
Requests for information should be made in writing (for
example letter, form, fax, email) but Council staff will be
ready to advise and assist if necessary. Requests for
environmental information may also be made orally.
The council already publishes a lot of information and you can
find out about this by looking at our Publication
Scheme. This sets out how the information can be obtained
and if there is a charge for it.
Further information about Freedom of Information is available
from the Information
Commissioner.
