Data protection and freedom of information

Access to Information
Information is one of the most vital, strategic assets any
organisation possesses. Regulatory requirements, such as the Data
Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000, make
managing information both a business priority and a legal
obligation that demand the Council's attention. In this
section you can find out more about how to access information the
Council holds.
You have the right to request access to:
- information the council holds about you (Data Protection Act
1998);
- information made available to the public via the Council’s
Publication Scheme;
- environmental information (Environmental Information
Regulations 2004);
- any other information held by the Council (Freedom of
Information Act 2000).
- and the council must supply a copy of the information unless an
exemption applies under the relevant legislation.
Who can I contact for more
information?
If you would like to make a request for
information and need some assistance, you can visit the Maidstone
Gateway. Alternatively you can contact the Freedom of Information
Officer by post or by e-mail. Requests by post
