Council tax - overpayment
If there has been any overpayment of your council tax
liability as a result of, for example
- you have moved home and you have paid more than
is required to your vacation date;
- the band of your property has been reduced;
- you have been awarded an amount of council tax benefit;
- you have been awarded a discount or exemption;
- you have simply paid too much;
then the options for getting the overpayment
to you include:
- If the overpayment has occurred as a result of a move within
our area and you have a new account with the council in respect of
your new address, any overpayment on your old account can be
transferred to your new account;
- If the overpayment has occurred as a result of any other reason
listed above, then the overpayment can either be refunded to you or
used to reduce your next year’s liability, whatever you prefer and
subject to whether or not the new year’s charge
has actually become due.
