Council Tax - appeals
Council tax banding
If you are dissatisfied with the band your property is placed
in, you may appeal against it, subject to the conditions outlined
below.
ALL appeals against council tax bands should be
directed to the Valuation Office Agency and NOT
Maidstone Borough Council. The office dealing with appeals for
Maidstone can be found at:
Jo Coll Listing Officer, Council Tax South, The Valuation Office
Agency, Second Floor, 1 Francis Grove, Wimbledon, London, SW19
4DT.
Telephone: 03000 501501
Conditions
You can appeal against the band of your property if:
- You have been liable for the property for less than six months
and you can demonstrate that the value of the property as at April
1, 1991 would have placed the property into a different band;
and/or
- There has been a change in the physical state of the area, or
structural changes to the property, which would reduce the value
sufficiently to place it into another band.
Until an appeal has been
determined, you must pay the Council Tax bill. If your appeal is
successful, you will be credited with any overpayment.
Other appeals
If you are dissatisfied with any decision of the council
relating to the granting or not granting of any exemption,
discount or disabled person relief, you should initially
address your appeal to the Revenues Section of the council at
Maidstone House, King Street, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6JQ.
