Council tax - annual notification
At the start of the year
This council produces the annual bills at the beginning of
March every year - e.g. the bills for the year commencing 1 April
2010 were generated from the council's records at 6 March 2010.
These bills will show:
- the amount due for the whole of the next year (including any
reductions in respect of any discount, disabled person's
relief, council tax benefit or any overpayment that has been
carried forward from the previous year;
- how many instalments are allowed (usually 10), together with
the value of each instalment and the date that each instalment is
due by; and
- any (arrears) balance that might be outstanding at the date the
bills are generated.
Please note that any payments that are received by the council
after the bills are generated will NOT change
any amount that was outstanding at the date the bills were printed.
However, any such payments will reduce the amount that is due,
either completely or partially, depending upon what was paid and
will not need to be paid again.
During the year
If we receive notification of any change in responsibility or
liability for the council tax after the intial bills have been
created, then our records will be amended and any revised bills or
notices will be sent.
They will contain similar information to the bills
generated at the start of the year, but the number of
instalments may be less than 10, depending upon the time of
year that such bills are created.
