Schools - clothing grants and vouchers
Most schools in Kent ask children to wear school uniforms. Each
school has its own uniform policy. The governing body of each
school decides whether pupils should wear a uniform, in
consultation with the head teacher, staff and parents.
Cost of uniforms
In 1997, Kent County Council (KCC)
stopped helping parent and carers with the cost of school
uniforms. This decision followed in-depth consultations
with local elected members and heads of schools and was made
due to the financial situation of the authority at the time.
Unfortunately, the financial situation has not changed
and KCC can't offer money to help with the cost of school
uniforms.
